HUJI-Innovate

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center of the Hebrew University

 

HUJI Innovate is the Hebrew University’s platform to encourage and assist students, faculty and alumni to develop their Innovation and Entrepreneurship capabilities. We support HUJI’s 23,000 students and faculty in the ideation and development of new solutions for real-world problems while fostering a vibrant ecosystem that helps accelerate the creation of new ventures.

 
Everyone should be the founder of their own professional persona.

The student of the 21st Century will need to navigate a more challenging workplace in their career. We will boost our student’s perception of innovation and entrepreneurship with the aim to help them maximise their potential and develop the self entrepreneurial skills needed for a successful career. Using the services available at our center, we will cultivate their capabilities for innovation and problem solving, while helping participants focus on the areas that most interest them.

 

The Journey from Idea to Venture.

The participant journey includes hands-on courses and workshops that help them identify their unique capabilities and creativity, trains them as innovators and entrepreneurs and helps them transit from Idea to Venture. Working in multidisciplinary teams will enable participants to enjoy the innovation enhancing effects of disciplinary cross-pollination. Using a Human Centered Design approach will help participants plan and design products to best fit the needs of their clients. Working with industry proven mentors allows participants to learn from other’s experience and raises their chances for success. Finally, advice from Israel’s best Legal and Tax firms helps participants found their companies in the best possible way.

Examples of Activities

 

Events & Workshops:

  • ‘Off the Record’: Meetings with industry leaders (entrepreneurs, investors and executives), where they share their professional journey - success, failure and in between.

  • Professional & skills development: workshops aimed to develop 21st century skills such as innovative thinking, storytelling, negotiation, presentation skills, project management, marketing, design thinking, and more.

  • Hackathons: In collaboration with industry, government, education, etc,  based development events.

  • Academia and Industry Summits: Serve as nexus points for academia and industry to discuss and present breakthrough research in chosen themes. In 2018- 2019 the center will host conferences in the areas of 3D Printing, Quantum Computing, and Artificial Intelligence.

  • Breakfast Clubs: quarterly gathering of researchers from a variety of overlapping area such as brain science, the smart city, automotive technology, elderly care, etc.

 

Education:

  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship for all: Courses open to every student at HUJI so can learn the basics about innovation and entrepreneurship.  

  • Minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship: an academic program for every student who wants to take a step further in the entrepreneurial process. A series of courses that will help them to take an idea all the way to a venture.

  • “Future of”... crash courses: Intensive 3-5 day courses that explore disruptive innovation in specific sectors using multi-disciplinary methodologies (i.e. Financing, Cities, Food, Therapy, Work, Higher Education, etc.)

  • Tech for Non-Techies: Courses where students and faculty learn the basics of  programming, prototyping and how to build nearly anything.

  • K-12 Programs: Educational programs to introduce  K-12 students to innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

Programs :

  • Open: The HUJI Innovate Entreneurship studio: Participants will learn first hand how to work in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams in the process of ideating, validating and finally creating a prototype and presenting the project.

  • Challenges - A Global Competition: A global competition to challenge innovators to solve some of the worlds great problems. The competition, led by the Hebrew University, includes an acceleration program at HUJI and cash prizes.

  • TIP: The HUJI-Innovate International Trans-Disciplinary Innovation Program. A hands on international entrepreneurship program focused on the intersection of state of the art technologies and future markets, through an Israeli point of view.

  • Lean Launchpad: a unique program that prepares scientists and engineers to extend their focus beyond the university laboratory, and accelerates the economic and social by taking basic-research projects that are ready and move them towards commercialization, using Steve Blank’s methodology.

  • Siftech: The HUJI-Innovate commercial accelerator.

 

Services :  

  • The Hub: HUJI-Innovate participants and alumni will have access to our Coworking Space,  our Makerspace and our Tech Lab, to support their efforts.

  • The dHub:  An upcomming Interactive online Innovation and Entrepreneurship learning center that will be available to the Public.

  • Mentors and experts: Access to a wide network of industry leaders that share their expertise and knowledge with the entrepreneurs.

  • Excubator: Access to labs and facilities: The Hebrew University “Excubator” model offers the use of furnished and equipped laboratory space, access to specialized equipment, research service centers and experts, all operating in an IP-free zone and reduced costs.
